Where a customer will one day ask which lot something came from — pharmaceuticals, food, engineered parts — batch tracking is not optional, and a spreadsheet cannot enforce it.
Receiving into a batch
- Receive the goods as normal.
- For a tracked item, enter the batch number and expiry date per line.
- Save. Stock is now held per batch at that location.
Scanning
The scanner field reads plain barcodes and GS1 codes. A GS1 code carries several values at once — GTIN, batch, expiry and quantity — and these are read from one scan rather than typed. Variable-length fields and the FNC1 separator are handled, so the compound codes on pharmaceutical and FMCG cartons work as printed.
Watching expiry
Short-dated stock is surfaced before it becomes a write-off. The expiry report lists what is approaching its date, by batch and location, so it can be moved while it still has value.
