More than one business, on one sign-in

The business name at the foot of the sidebar was the only thing telling you which company you were in, and it was not clickable. It is a menu now.

Signing out to change company

Plenty of people here run more than one company: a trading arm and a manufacturing one, a proprietorship and the private limited that replaced it, a group of related firms with one accountant across all of them. JAI CRM has always kept those completely separate, which is right: separate records, separate staff, separate GST numbers, separate everything.

What it did not do was let you move between them. The company name sat at the bottom of the sidebar, telling you where you were, and doing nothing else. Getting into the other one meant signing out, signing back in, and remembering which password went with which.

The name is a menu

Click the business name at the foot of the sidebar and it lists every workspace this sign-in opened. Pick one and you are in it: no second password, no second sign-in, and the one you were in is still there to come back to.

It lists what the password demonstrably opened, and nothing else. That bound is the whole security of the feature: a session in one business proves nothing about another, so what the menu can offer is exactly what was proved at the moment the password was given. A workspace of yours that uses a different password is not on the list, and the menu says so rather than leaving you wondering where it went.

A workspace that is suspended for non-payment stays on the list, greyed, saying why. Hiding it would make an unpaid invoice look like a deleted company.

And one of them can open itself

If your email is used in more than one business, signing in used to stop and ask which. For somebody who works in one of them all day and visits the others occasionally, that is the same question every morning with the same answer.

Star one in the menu (or tick Open this one next time without asking on the question itself), and signing in goes straight there. The others are a click away in the menu, as before.

It is deliberately not honoured when that workspace is shut for non-payment. Dropping you into a workspace that refuses you a second later would hide the working ones behind an error message.

Buying another one

Add a workspace in the same menu opens a screen with the plans on it. Give the business a name, choose a plan, pay, and it opens: a completely separate company with its own records, its own people and its own subscription, reachable from the same menu without signing in again.

It starts as a paid subscription immediately. There is no trial on a workspace added from an account that already has one: the trial is there to let somebody try the product, and you are not a stranger to it.

If you stop halfway (close the payment window, change your mind at the bank), nothing is charged. The workspace sits there unopened, and the next time you visit that screen it offers to finish paying for the one you started rather than quietly selling you a second empty one.

Signing out

The same menu is where you sign out. It is worth saying because until now there was nowhere obvious to do it at all unless you were an administrator acting as somebody else.

Does this affect anything existing?

No. No data moved, nothing is shared between workspaces, and no permission changed. If your email is used in only one business, the menu shows that one business and the rest of this is simply not relevant to you.

Nobody has a default workspace until they choose one, so signing in behaves exactly as it did until you set one.

The workspaces you can reach are decided by your password, not by your email address. Somebody who knows your email learns nothing about which companies it belongs to.

1 GB storage per workspace (organisation)

Only want this one module?

Individual modules are sold on their own alongside the plans. See every module’s price.

What about storage?

A single module includes 1 GB of storage per workspace (organisation) and Full Suite includes 5 GB per workspace (organisation): documents, attachments, file versions and photographs, counted together for everyone in it, not per user. Add more at any time in tiers, or move to Full Suite and take the larger allowance with it. Nothing is deleted if you run close; uploads are refused with a reason, and what you already have stays exactly where it is.

Annual or monthly?

Both. Annual works out cheaper per month and is charged once at the start; monthly costs a little more and can be stopped at the end of any cycle. The card shows the per-user-per-month figure on both, so the two are comparable at a glance rather than by arithmetic.
