The card reader reads what a phone actually sends

Some cards came back empty, and some came back wrong. The reader now copes with a card lying sideways, a patterned tablecloth behind it, and names with a middle initial. It also refuses a black photograph instead of filing a card that was never really taken.

What was going wrong

Photographs taken in real life are not like the ones in a test. The card lies at an angle on a table, fills a third of the picture, and sits on whatever cloth was there. Four things followed from that:

Four problems, four fixes

↻

A sideways card read as nothing

The reader now tries the picture every way round and keeps the one it can read clearly. A card that came back blank now comes back with its name, title, numbers, email and website.

▦

The tablecloth read as words

A printed cloth behind the card produced lines of nonsense, and the real name got lost under them. Faint marks are now ignored, and the card’s own text is what is left.

A

A middle initial treated as a smudge

A name like A R Rahman was marked down for its single letters, so one card was filed under a country printed at the bottom of it. An initial between two words now counts as part of a name.

●

A black photograph

Pressing the button the instant the camera opened could capture a black picture. The app now waits for the camera and refuses a blank frame, with a message saying to try again.

Does this affect anything you already have?

Cards already read keep what was read. If one came back wrong, open it: every field has a From the card list, so the right line is one tap away.

The reader runs on our side, so this works in the app you already have. The black-photograph check needs version 1.3.25.

1 GB storage per workspace (organisation)

Only want this one module?

Individual modules are sold on their own alongside the plans. See every module’s price.

What about storage?

A single module includes 1 GB of storage per workspace (organisation) and Full Suite includes 5 GB per workspace (organisation): documents, attachments, file versions and photographs, counted together for everyone in it, not per user. Add more at any time in tiers, or move to Full Suite and take the larger allowance with it. Nothing is deleted if you run close; uploads are refused with a reason, and what you already have stays exactly where it is.

Annual or monthly?

Both. Annual works out cheaper per month and is charged once at the start; monthly costs a little more and can be stopped at the end of any cycle. The card shows the per-user-per-month figure on both, so the two are comparable at a glance rather than by arithmetic.
