Three more kinds of invoice, and one you can give up on
A retainer, a subscription, a rent. An advance before the work. A supply that carries no GST. And an invoice nobody is ever going to pay.

Invoices that raise themselves
A retainer, a subscription, a rent, a maintenance contract: the same invoice every month for as long as the arrangement lasts. Typing it out again each time is how one gets missed, and a missed one is a month of revenue nobody notices until the year end.
Set it up from an invoice you have already raised (More → Repeat this invoice), because the arrangement is nearly always “this one, again, every month”. Weekly through yearly, or every so many days; until a date, or after so many, or until you stop it. Each arrives as a draft unless you say to send it, which is the safer way to start.
The parts that are easy to get wrong
The 31st stays the 31st
A monthly invoice on the 31st falls on the 28th in February and then goes back to the 31st. It does not walk backwards a day at a time, which is what adding a month to a clamped date does.
Dates are days, not moments
Worked out in UTC. Built in local time and read back, “the 31st” arrives as the 30th for anybody east of Greenwich, which is exactly what the first test of this showed.
One at a time when catching up
A schedule that has been asleep raises one invoice per night rather than six at once. Six arriving together is how a customer stops trusting the sender.
Failures are written down
Every run is recorded, including the ones that did not work. A schedule that silently stopped is the worst outcome here.
Money before the work
A retainer invoice asks for a deposit, a mobilisation advance, a month paid up front. It is owed until it arrives, and once it has, what it collected is applied to the invoices that follow rather than sitting as a second debt beside them.
The applying is the part that matters and the part that was missing: a retainer paid in April is money on the customer, and an invoice raised in June had no way to find it. Any invoice can now apply an advance: every payment with an unspent balance is listed, with what is on account and what the invoice owes.
An advance is not a special record. It is a payment that has not been allocated to anything yet, so a receipt taken before there was an invoice to put it against (the commonest way this actually happens) appears there too, without anybody having called it a retainer.
Where no GST may be charged
A composition dealer may not charge GST, and neither may anybody selling exempt or nil-rated goods. What they raise is a bill of supply, and until now those businesses were issuing tax invoices for supplies that carry no tax.
It is a document type of its own with its own consecutive series, because a bill of supply numbered in among tax invoices is not a scheme an auditor accepts. No tax can be charged on one whatever the lines say. A bill of supply carrying GST is not a clerical error, it is the wrong document. Switch it on in Settings → Plugins → Sales documents; for everybody else it would be a second invoice list that never gets used.
Giving up on one
An invoice nobody is going to pay had two bad options: leave it owing for ever, or reverse it with a credit note. A credit note says the sale did not happen and takes back the tax, possibly on a return already filed.
Writing it off says the opposite. The sale happened, the tax stands, the money is gone: the invoice keeps its total and its place in the books, stops being receivable, and says why on its face. Part of it can be written off when some of the debt is genuinely recoverable, and the whole thing undone when they pay after all.
And three smaller things about money
A payment can be corrected
The figure, the date, the mode, the reference. It could only be deleted and re-entered before, which loses its number and its history.
TDS alone can be recorded
A customer who deducts tax at source and sends nothing else that month could not be recorded at all, because a payment had to be for a positive amount.
A real PDF, and fifty at once
Save as PDF opened the print dialog, which cannot produce a file to attach to an e-mail. Select invoices in the list and download them as one zip.
Does this affect anything existing?
Nothing changes until you use it. Recurring arrangements, retainers and bills of supply are new lists; no existing invoice moves into any of them.
One behaviour did change: an invoice shared by link now offers Received and Raise a query rather than nothing at all. A query carries a note and raises an event, because a customer who thinks an invoice is wrong previously had to telephone about it, and until they did, nobody knew.

5 GB storage per workspace (organisation)
Only want this one module?
Individual modules are sold on their own alongside the plans. See every module’s price.
What about storage?
A single module includes 1 GB of storage per workspace (organisation) and Full Suite includes 5 GB per workspace (organisation): documents, attachments, file versions and photographs, counted together for everyone in it, not per user. Add more at any time in tiers, or move to Full Suite and take the larger allowance with it. Nothing is deleted if you run close; uploads are refused with a reason, and what you already have stays exactly where it is.
Annual or monthly?
Both. Annual works out cheaper per month and is charged once at the start; monthly costs a little more and can be stopped at the end of any cycle. The card shows the per-user-per-month figure on both, so the two are comparable at a glance rather than by arithmetic.
