Adding a channel partner

Every box on the form: name, firm, kind, phone, who looks after them, how long their customers count, and where their commission is paid.

  1. Open Channel Partners in the sidebar and press the blue +.
  2. Type their Partner name, the person you deal with, such as Ar. Neha Kapoor.
  3. Fill in their Firm, Kind, Phone and anything else you know.
  4. Press Save. They are now offered in Referred by on every lead and customer.

A new partner. Only the name is required; the rest can be added as you learn it.

The boxes, one by one

BoxWhat it is for
Partner nameThe person who refers customers. It is what Referred by shows on every record they send.
FirmTheir practice or company. It shows under their name in the list.
KindArchitect, Interior designer, Builder, Contractor, Consultant or Other. The report compares kinds. See Kinds of partner.
Phone, Email, City, AddressHow to reach them. On a phone, the list has a call button beside each partner.
Looked after byThe colleague who keeps the relationship, filled in with you to start with. See Who looks after a partner.
Counts for (months)How long a customer they referred keeps counting for them. Empty means 12 months. See How long a referred customer counts.
ActiveTicked for a new partner. Untick it for a partner who no longer works with you; what they brought in stays credited to them.
GSTIN, PANTheir tax details, kept for when commission is paid.
Paid as vendorThe vendor record their commission will be paid to, with bank details. Offered only where Vendors is switched on.

The same partner twice

Search the list before adding somebody. Two records for one partner split their referrals in two, and neither page shows the whole picture. A spreadsheet import does match partners already in the list, on phone, email or GSTIN. See Importing and exporting partners.

Your business can add its own boxes to the partner form, for example a Council of Architecture number, in Settings, Fields and rules, by choosing Channel partners.

Use cases

  • An architect visits the showroom with a client: add her before the client leaves, so the lead can name her.
  • You meet five builders at a property fair: add them that evening, with who in your team met them in Looked after by.
  • A contractor you have worked with for years: add him with a 6-month window if you agreed to pay on his first jobs only.

What will catch you out

  • The person, not the practice, goes in Partner name. A firm with two architects who both refer customers is two partners with the same Firm.
  • Counts for is in months, and empty means 12. Typing 1 means one month, not one year.
