Who looks after a partner

The colleague who keeps the relationship: what they are told, and how it decides who sees which partners.

A partner relationship belongs to somebody: the person who visits the architect, sends the samples and remembers their birthday. Looked after by records who that is. It starts as whoever adds the partner and can be changed on the partner’s page.

What it decides

  • Who sees the partner, where a role’s record visibility for Channel partners is set to own records: each salesperson then sees the partners they look after, and their manager sees their team’s.
  • Whose name is on the report: the report has a Looked after by column, so you can see whose partners bring in the most.
  • Who is reminded about a partner who has gone quiet. See Partners who have gone quiet.

What it does not decide

It does not decide who handles the customer. A lead an architect sends still goes to a salesperson by your assignment rules, which may be a different colleague. That is usually right: the person who looks after architects is not always the person who sells tiles. The partner is credited either way.

Change it

  1. Open the partner and press the pencil to edit.
  2. Choose the colleague in Looked after by and save.

When somebody leaves, open each of their partners and choose who looks after them now. Filter the list on Looked after by to find them all.

The At a glance box on a partner’s page calls this person the Owner, as it does on every record.

Use cases

  • One person looks after every architect, and the salespeople sell: set Looked after by to that person on each architect, and give salespeople all-records visibility on Channel partners so they can still choose any partner on a lead.
  • Each salesperson has their own builders: set Looked after by to them, and give their role own-records visibility, so the list shows each person their own partners.

Record visibility decides who can open a partner, and so who can choose them in Referred by. If salespeople see only their own partners, they can credit a lead only to one of those. Where anybody might take a call from any partner, give the role all records on Channel partners.

Finding everybody's partners

The list has a Looked after by column. Sort on it to see each colleague’s partners together, or filter on one colleague to see only theirs. The report has the same column, so the owner can see whose partners bring in the most business.
