Questions about channel partners

Deleting a partner, records made before the module, commission, and other things people ask.

What happens to their referrals if I delete a partner?

The records keep the credit to the deleted partner; nothing is moved to anyone else. If they simply no longer work with you, untick Active instead, so their page and everything they brought in stay readable.

Can I credit leads and invoices from before we switched it on?

Yes, one at a time, with Set beside Referred by. Nothing is credited backwards automatically, on purpose: guessing who referred an old customer would put figures on a partner’s page that nobody can stand behind.

Does it work out their commission?

Not yet. It keeps the figures commission is worked out on: won value, invoiced, and collected before GST. Paying partner commission, with TDS under section 194H on a bill to the vendor in Paid as vendor, is part of the Targets and Commission module.

Why is a referred customer's new invoice not credited?

Usually because it was made after the partner’s window closed, or it belongs to a deal credited to nobody. Point of sale sales and invoices from Projects, Subscriptions or Shopify are not credited at present. See What a referral is credited with.

Can one customer be credited to two partners?

Not on the same record. Each lead, customer, deal and document has one partner or none. Different deals for the same customer can be credited to different partners with Change, for example tiles to the architect and the kitchen to the interior designer.

Do partners see anything?

No. Partners do not sign in and cannot see your records. A page where a partner can refer customers and follow their progress may come later.

Who sees the module?

Only a business that has it switched on. See Switching Channel Partners on.

Does it slow down saving a lead or an invoice?

No noticeable difference. Where the module is switched off, it does no work at all.

Can the window be different for one customer?

No. The window belongs to the partner. For one exception, credit the deal or document by hand with Set and a reason.

Does it work alongside Exhibitions?

Yes. A lead met at an exhibition stall can also be referred by a partner, for example an architect who brought the client to the stall. The exhibition and the partner are recorded separately, and each one’s report counts the lead.
