Sometimes the record is wrong: the architect phones to say she sent the customer, or the builder sent them first. Who a record is credited to can be changed, but never silently, because commission will be paid on it.
- Open the lead, customer, deal or document.
- Press Change beside Referred by. On a deal or document with nobody, the link reads Set.
- Choose the partner it should be credited to, or clear the box for nobody.
- Write Why, in a few words, and press Change it.
What it changes, and what it does not
- It changes that one record. Changing a deal does not change its quotations or invoices, and changing a customer does not change deals already made for them.
- A correction keeps the original referral date, so the window does not start again. A record credited for the first time starts it that day.
- The record’s History shows the change: from whom, to whom, who did it, when, and the reason you gave.
To move a whole account to another partner, change the customer, then each open deal and document that should follow it. Leaving finished invoices with the partner they were raised for is usually right: that is what was true when the money was earned.
Who can do it
Anyone whose role has Manage on Channel partners. Everyone else sees Referred by but no Change link. See Who can do what.
A lead or customer with nobody in Referred by can be given a partner by anyone who can edit it, straight on the form. Only changing one already set needs Change and a reason.
Use cases
- A salesperson chose the wrong architect from two with similar names: change it on the lead, with the reason “chose the wrong Kapoor”.
- A partner disputes a referral: change the deal and its documents to the partner the business agrees it belongs to, and write the decision in Why. The next person to ask finds the answer in the history.
- A record credited to a partner who should not be paid on it, such as a repeat order the customer placed directly: clear the box for nobody, with the reason.
