It happens often: the architect recommends you, and so does the contractor, and both expect a commission. JAI CRM does not decide quietly. When Referred by is filled in, it looks for the same person already referred by somebody else, and asks.
What counts as the same person
- The same phone or mobile, compared on the last ten digits, so +91 98290-11111 and 98290 11111 are one number.
- The same email, whatever the capitals.
- Against open leads (not converted and not lost) of any age, and customers still inside their partner’s window.
Your two answers
- Give it to the new partner: the record is saved with the new partner. The earlier lead or customer keeps its own partner.
- Go back: nothing is saved. To keep the first partner, choose them in Referred by and save again; the question does not come back, because nobody else is claiming.
Either way the record’s History shows who it was credited to and who made the choice. If the answer turns out wrong, change it later with a reason. See Changing who a record is credited to.
What it does not catch
- A different number or email for the same family. Duplicate checking on leads and customers may still point it out.
- A customer whose partner’s window has closed. That customer is yours again, and a new referral is a new partner’s.
Use cases
- The architect sent the client for flooring and the contractor sent the same client for bathrooms: give the lead to whoever the business agreed it with, and later credit the bathroom deal to the contractor with Change.
- A broker claims a buyer a builder introduced months ago: the builder’s customer is still inside the window, so you are asked; Go back keeps the builder.
Decide the house rule before it comes up, for example “first referral wins” or “the partner the customer names wins”, so everybody answers the question the same way.
Why an old open lead still claims
A lead has no clock: if the first partner’s lead converts, even a year later, it is credited to that partner. So an open lead of any age stands in the way of a second partner. Once that lead is lost or converted, it no longer claims; a converted one claims through its customer, while the customer is inside the window.
