Channel partners has its own permissions in Settings, Roles and permissions, once the module is switched on. The business owner and administrators can do everything; for everyone else, give each role what it needs.
| Permission | Allows |
|---|---|
| View | Open Channel Partners, partners’ pages and What they brought in, and the two reports. |
| Create | Add a partner. |
| Edit | Change a partner’s details, Looked after by and Counts for. |
| Delete | Delete a partner. Records credited to them keep the credit. |
| Import, Export | Bring partners in from a spreadsheet, and take the list out. |
| Manage | Change who a lead, customer, deal or document is credited to, with a reason (the Change link). |
Choosing a partner on a lead
Filling in Referred by on a lead or customer that has none needs only the right to edit that lead or customer, so the salesperson who takes the call can record it. Changing a partner already set needs Manage.
Record visibility
- All records: they see every partner.
- Team: partners looked after by them and their team.
- Own records: only partners they look after.
A suggested setup: salespeople with View and Create and own records, so each looks after their own partners; the sales head with everything on all records, including Manage.
Use cases
- A receptionist who takes calls: needs to edit leads, so they can fill in Referred by; Channel partners View is enough.
- A partner manager: View, Create and Edit on all records, plus Manage, so they can settle disputes.
- An accountant checking commission: View and Export, all records.
Setting a role up
- Go to Settings, Roles and permissions, and open the role.
- Find Channel partners and tick what the role may do: View, Create, Edit, Delete, Import, Export, Manage.
- Choose whose partners they see: all records, their team’s, or their own.
- Save. People with that role see the change when they next open a page.
To check what one person can see, use Who can do what in Settings, which shows every permission a person has and where it comes from.
The module switch comes first
Permissions decide what people may do inside the module; the switch decides whether it exists for your business at all. While Channel Partners is off, nobody sees it whatever their role says. When it is switched on, owners and administrators see it at once, and every other role sees it only once it is given View.
The tabs on a partner’s page follow the other modules’ permissions too: someone who may not view invoices does not see the partner’s invoices, even with every permission on Channel partners.
