Targets & Commission has five permissions, one for each screen. They are set in Settings, Roles & permissions, like every other permission. A business without the module is refused every one of them, owners included.
| Permission | Actions | What they allow |
|---|---|---|
| My target | View | Their own My target, and their own statements. |
| Sales targets | View, Edit | View: everybody’s targets, anybody’s My target, and the circle card. Edit: change targets and what they measure. |
| Commission plans | View, Create, Edit, Delete | Reading, writing, changing and deleting plans. |
| Commission statements | View, Approve | View: every statement. Approve: approve, send back and work out statements. |
| Partner payouts | View, Approve | View: terms and payouts. Approve: set terms, work out payouts and make bills. |
Rules that hold whatever the role
- Nobody approves their own statement.
- Making a partner’s bill also needs Create on purchase bills.
- Partner payouts needs Channel Partners to be on as well.
- A salesperson can open their own statement with View on My target alone.
A typical set-up
| Role | Gets |
|---|---|
| Salesperson | My target: View. |
| Sales manager | My target and Sales targets: all. Commission plans: View. Commission statements: View and Approve. |
| Sales head or owner | Everything, including writing plans. |
| Accounts | Commission statements: View. Partner payouts: View and Approve, with Create on purchase bills. |
Seeing colleagues' figures
Some teams like a league table; others find it harmful. The circle card on My target, with each colleague’s progress, shows only to people with View on Sales targets. Leave it off salespeople’s roles to keep each person’s figures to themselves and their managers.
Records of who did what
Saving targets, writing or changing a plan, working out, approving or sending back a statement, setting partner terms and making bills are each recorded in the activity log with who did it and when.
Where to set them
Open Settings, Roles & permissions, choose a role, and find Targets & Commission among the modules. Each of its five lines has its actions as tick boxes. A role replaces a person’s own permissions: somebody with a role gets exactly what the role gives, and somebody with none gets their own, set in Settings, Users. Partner payouts appears only where Channel Partners is on.
When somebody cannot find a screen
Check three things, in order: that Targets & Commission is switched on for the business; that the person’s role has View on that line; and, for Partner payouts, that Channel Partners is on as well. A screen the role does not allow is left out of the sidebar rather than shown and refused.
