Thank you for trying the Tally link while it is still marked Beta. This page is the whole test: about an hour, most of it in Tally. Each step says what you should see. Where you see something else, note it down. That is exactly what we need to hear.
Use a test company in Tally. Create a new company (Alt+K, Create) or restore a backup of yours under a new name (Alt+Y, Restore). Do not import into the company you file GST returns from until the test is finished and we have both agreed it works.
1. Prepare
- Note your Tally release: Help, About.
- In the test company, switch on GST and bill-wise details (F11). If you will test stock items, switch on inventory too.
- Open Settings, Integrations and press Set up on the Tally card. Every business with Sales documents has the Tally link, free; you need the Tally set-up permission to open it.
- In JAI CRM, open Tally, Set-up. Type the test company’s name exactly, choose your release, and leave the ledger names as they are. Save.
2. Create these in JAI CRM
Use real-looking figures. Dates can be today. Skip the purchase ones if your business does not have Procurement, and the stock one if it does not have Inventory.
| # | Create | What it tests |
|---|---|---|
| A | An invoice to a customer in your own state, with a GSTIN, two lines at different GST rates | CGST and SGST, two rates on one invoice |
| B | An invoice to a customer in another state | IGST and the place of supply |
| C | An invoice to a customer with no GSTIN | An unregistered buyer |
| D | An invoice with a discount on the whole invoice, a shipping charge and a total that rounds off | Discount, charges and round-off |
| E | A credit note against invoice A | A return against an invoice |
| F | A payment received for all of invoice A, by bank transfer | A receipt that closes an invoice |
| G | A payment received for part of invoice B, with TDS deducted | A part payment, and TDS receivable |
| H | A purchase bill from a vendor, with the vendor’s own bill number | A purchase with input GST |
| I | A payment made for that bill | A payment that closes a bill |
| J | With Inventory: switch on Send invoices with stock items in Set-up, then an invoice with two stock items | Stock items, units and quantities |
3. Send and import
- On Send to Tally, choose today’s date in both boxes. Tick every section you can, and switch on Also create the standard ledgers.
- Press Check what will go. Note the counts.
- Press Make the files, download both, and import them: masters, then transactions, choosing Modify with New Data.
- Note what Tally’s import summary says for each file, and anything under Alt+O, Exceptions.
4. Check in Tally
| Check | You should see |
|---|---|
| Day Book for today | One voucher for each of A to J |
| Invoice A | Your customer debited the total. Sales credited the taxable value. Output CGST and SGST each half the tax. Your invoice number in the narration |
| Invoice B | Output IGST instead of CGST and SGST |
| Invoice D | Discount, Other Charges and Round Off lines, and a total equal to the invoice’s |
| Credit note E | Against invoice A in the bill details |
| Customer of A, Bills receivable | Invoice A no longer outstanding after payment F |
| Payment G | TDS Receivable debited with the tax deducted |
| Purchase bill H | The vendor’s bill number as the reference, input GST debited |
| Customers and vendors (Chart of Accounts, Ledgers) | GSTIN, state and address as in JAI CRM |
| Invoice J and the Stock Summary | The items, quantities and rates, and stock reduced |
| GSTR-1 in Tally | Invoices A, B, C and D in the right tables, none under “uncertain” |
5. Change something, and send again
- Edit invoice C: change a quantity. Cancel invoice D.
- Send again with the same dates and Only what is new or changed on. The check should show only C and D.
- Import the transactions. Invoice C should be updated, not doubled. Invoice D should be cancelled.
- Press Make the files once more. It should say there is nothing new to send.
6. Tell us
Send these to your JAI CRM contact, by email or WhatsApp:
- Your business name, and your Tally release from Help, About.
- The counts from Check what will go, and Tally’s import summary for each file.
- A screenshot of anything under Alt+O, Exceptions, or any error Tally showed.
- For each check in step 4 that did not match: the document, what you expected, and what Tally showed.
- Both files, downloaded again from History. They hold your test documents, not your passwords.
- Anything you expected to go to Tally that is not on What it does not do yet.
If everything matched, tell us that too. A clean test on your release of Tally is as useful as a broken one.
Something missing or wrong here? Tell us. A question that needed asking usually means a page that needed writing.
