An uploaded file in the Documents module. Routing decides whose name is against it.
Files also have folder permissions of their own, which decide who can see them. Assignment sets an owner; it does not widen or narrow who has access.
What you would route on
Any field on the module can be used, including ones you have added yourself. These are the ones businesses reach for:
| Field | Why you would route on it |
|---|---|
| Folder | Contracts to legal, drawings to engineering. |
| Tags | However you have chosen to classify them. |
| Linked record | Files attached to a customer follow that relationship. |
A worked example
A consultancy routes files uploaded to the Contracts folder to the compliance officer, so signed agreements always have a named custodian.
Caps and overflow
| Setting | Worth it here? |
|---|---|
| A cap per person | Rarely. |
| An overflow owner | Rarely. |
Nothing stops you setting either — they are offered on every module. It is simply that a daily limit answers a question this module rarely asks.
