Who can do what

The Cross-sell rules permissions, who sees the deal card and the waiting list, and how the new owner's access to the first deal works.

Cross-sell has one set of permissions, Cross-sell rules, in Settings, Roles and permissions. The module switch comes first: while Cross-sell is off for your business nobody sees it, whatever their role says. When it is on, owners and administrators see it at once, and every other role sees it only once it is given View.

PermissionWhat it allows
ViewSee the Cross-sell page: the rules, what each did in 30 days, and the waiting list. Run the three reports.
CreateWrite a new rule.
EditChange a rule, and switch it on or off.
DeleteDelete a rule.
ManageOpen a waiting deal now, or stop it, from the waiting list or from a deal’s card.

The card on a deal

The Cross-sell card and the Cross-sell from line are shown to anybody who can open that deal, whether or not they have any Cross-sell permission, because they are about that deal. Open now and Don’t open on the card need Manage.

The new owner and the first deal

Cross-sell does not change who can see what. The kitchen salesperson can open the tiles deal only if their role lets them, and a role limited to its own records does not. That is why the handover note carries the facts from the first deal, so they do not need to open it. In the same way, the first salesperson is added to the new deal’s conversation only if their role lets them open the new deal.

The fields

Contact person, Site address and Cross-sell from on deals, Do not contact on customers and contacts, and Interested in on leads follow the permissions of deals, customers and leads, like their other fields. Converting a lead with several interests needs the Convert permission on leads, as converting always does; the extra deals are opened for that conversion.

Setting a role up

  1. Go to Settings, Roles and permissions, and open the role.
  2. Find Cross-sell rules and tick what the role may do.
  3. Save. People with that role see the change when they next open a page.

To check what one person can do, use Who can do what in Settings, which lists every permission a person has and where it comes from.

A typical set-up

Sales heads: View, Create, Edit and Manage, so they write the rules and look after the waiting list. Salespeople: nothing on Cross-sell rules; they see the card on their own deals and the handover in their conversations. Owners and administrators keep everything, including Delete.
