A cross-sell rule passes a customer from one department’s pipeline to another’s, so it can only be as good as the pipelines and teams it points at. Ten minutes here saves a rule that opens deals in the wrong place.
A pipeline for each department
Go to Settings, CRM, Pipelines and make one pipeline per department that sells something separately: Tiles, Modular kitchen, Wardrobes, Lighting. A rule always opens the new deal in a different pipeline from the one that starts it, so you need at least two. The editor says so if there is only one.
Put each pipeline’s stages in the order a deal really moves through them, and mark the stage that means won as won. The order matters: a rule that starts at Tiles finalised also counts every later stage, so a deal that jumps from Quotation sent straight to Installation still starts it. A stage marked lost never starts a rule.
A circle for each team
If a department’s deals should go round its people in turn, make a circle for that team in Settings, Circles and add its salespeople. A rule can give each new deal to the next person in the circle. Only people whose sign-in is active are given deals, so somebody who has left is skipped without any change to the rule.
Or your Deal assignment rules
If you already share deals out with assignment rules in Settings, Assignment, Deals, a cross-sell rule can use them instead. An assignment rule can test the pipeline, so Modular kitchen deals can go to one team and Wardrobes to another, with the limits per person you have already set.
The contact person and the site address
With Cross-sell on, a deal has a Contact person, chosen from the people at the customer, and a Site address, where the work is, which is often not where the bill goes. Fill them in on the first deal and the rule carries them to the next one, so the kitchen salesperson knows whom to ring and where to go.
The notice for the new owner
Install Deal assigned to you from the Notifications library so the new owner is told in the app and by email, as they have chosen. Without it they still get a notice in the bell. See Who is told.
